A socialist group will be welcoming civil liberties campaigner and broadcaster Darcus Howe at a meeting this week.

The rs21 group has organised the “Immigrants are not the problem” meeting at the Kurdish Community Centre in Portland Gardens, on Friday, April 25

Phil Tsappas of the socialist group believes immigrants are being made a “scapegoat”.

He said: "We're organising this meeting because we're tired of the way immigrants are scapegoated for problems they have not caused.

“Over the years the rhetoric changes so the focus goes from Afro-Caribbeans, to Asians, to asylum seekers, to Muslims to East Europeans. The target changes, but the scapegoating remains the same.

"We're really proud to be hosting Darcus Howe on the 25th. As someone who has seen the changing face of anti-immigrant racism through the years we think his experience and willingness to speak his mind will make a refreshing change from the political cowardice of many so-called progressive political leaders today."

The event will be free of charge and will start at 8pm.
