Forensic officers have begun a second day of investigations at the scene of a suspected murder in South Tottenham.

A police cordon still surrounds a large area of the overgrown green space in Ermine Road, South Tottenham, where the victim, believed to be in his fifties, was found dead with a head injury yesterday morning.

Police officers carried out further searches in what appears to be a makeshift shelter on the private land, where neighbours say homeless people had been living for some time.

Tottenham Independent:

Forensics experts scoured the undergrowth where the man's body was found.

A white forensic tent also remains at the scene, a short distance from the shelter, as detectives confirmed this morning they had arrested three men in connection with the suspected murder.

Meanwhile neighbours have painted a picture of growing anti-social behaviour in the overgrown land, which they say has been left unkempt for at least the past two years.

Three men found near the scene were arrested yesterday.

Caterina Dipisa, who has lived in Ermine Road for 16 years, says groups of foreign men in their 30s and 40s regularly hang around drinking late at night and early in the morning.

The 61-year-old grandmother said: “They’re often out there drinking, making noise and fighting. I’m scared to leave my house sometimes.

“It worries me because I’m not free to leave my own home at night. There are lots of families living around here but no-one sends their children out to play at night.

“My children want me to move because they think it’s not safe, and it is worrying that someone has been killed.”

A white forensic tent remained behind the police cordon this morning.

Police were called to Ermine Road at 11.35am on Sunday morning and three men, aged 30, 32 and 50, were arrested nearby and taken to a north London police station for questioning.

Ahmed Polat, who has lived next to the green space for 12 years, told the Haringey Independent he had previously contacted police and the council about the anti-social behaviour.

Tottenham Independent:

Police officers continued to search what appears to be a makeshift shelter in the overgrown land.

He said: “It is not nice to hear about them finding a body. Things have been getting worse around here though.

“I’ve reported the fact there are people living there to the police and the council but because it is private land they say there is nothing they can do.

“There is not enough being done to clean the area up. There is rubbish and empty bottles and cans everywhere, as well as people loitering around - no-one really feels safe.”

Tottenham Independent:

Neighbours say there has been a growing problem of anti-social drinkers on the land.
