A new course of women-only self-defence classes will start in Tottenham next Monday.

The classes, for women aged between 16 and 25, will teach the martial art of Urban Krav Maga, which draws upon karate, Brazilian ju jitsu, aikido, boxing, muay thai and tae kwon do.

Instructor Claire Bott said that the fighting style was an effective and practical system for defending against real-life attacks.

She added: “There are a lot of mixed-gender UKM classes out there, but they all tend to have a largely male client base. While some women are comfortable in male-dominated environments, others aren’t, and I felt it was important that as many women as possible get access to these very useful skills and techniques.”

The classes will being on Monday, May 12 from 7pm to 8pm at the Triangle Centre. The cost is £2 per class.
