A teenager with Down’s syndrome was handcuffed and held in a police cell for nine hours after triggering the burglar alarm at his school on Bank Holiday Monday.
Abdul Al-Faisal, 19, was given a caution for burglary after being found inside Haringey Sixth Form Centre in White Hart Lane.
An official statement from police said that officers called to the scene found evidence of a break-in.
It added that a suspect was identified using CCTV footage, and a man was arrested following a search of the building.
Haringey Sixth Form Centre confirmed that the arrested teenager was a pupil, but said that they were not sure how he had managed to break in.
They added: “A member of staff from the centre was asked to go to the police station by the family. The member of staff supported the student and the family until he was released. This is an unfortunate incident. The centre is continuing to support the family and the student.”
