A primary school teacher from Tottenham was called to meet the Prime Minister as a reward for her innovative teaching methods.

Ruth Gallie, 24, was chosen to visit Downing Street by the education charity Teach First, who recruit graduates to the teaching profession and support them through their training.

Ms Gallie, who is originally from Cornwall, is in her second year as a teacher at The Willow Primary School, Tottenham.

She said: “I really enjoyed visiting Downing Street, and it was interesting to see inside. We were well-looked after, the Prime Minister made a speech to thank teachers for the work they do.

“I’m really enjoying teaching at The Willow School. The staff are lovely. I definitely want to stay working within education.”

At the moment, her class are focussing on writing fiction. She said: “We’ve been doing a lot of writing activities and a lot of collaborating and sharing stories. I’ve been having huge expectations of them.”

She added: “I can’t imagine anything more rewarding that teaching my pupils each day.”
