Haringey goes to the polls as the Local Elections 2014 get underway

Haringey Independent: Polling stations will open across Haringey between 7am and 10pm today Polling stations will open across Haringey between 7am and 10pm today

Local elections take place across the country today, with polling stations open in Haringey from 7am to 10pm.

The Liberal Democrats will once again be looking to wrestle control of the north London council from Labour, who have been in power since 1971.

The Conservatives meanwhile are looking to secure an elusive seat in one of their target wards in Tottenham, having failed to win a place on the authority since 1994.

UKIP are hoping to have done enough to convince the borough's population they are not the racist party that Tottenham MP David Lammy labelled them earlier this week.

Nigel Farage's party has fielded a record eight candidates and is understood to be hopeful of springing a shock result in Crouch End and Woodside wards.

And the Green Party, Trade Union and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) and a number of independent candidates will also be looking to make an impression at the polls.
