Haringey Borough Council's Labour leader Councillor Claire Kober declared that Liberal Democrat MP Lynne Featherstone has been “firmly put on notice” after her party won a sweeping majority in Haringey.

The council leader fired a warning at the Hornsey and Wood Green MP, who is up for election next year, after Labour took a further 12 seats off the Liberal Democrats to leave them with just nine on the council.

She slammed the Liberal Democrats' election campaign, which she labelled “smear politics”.

Speaking after the results were announced, CllrKober said: "I think we can say that the love affair with the Lib Dems in Haringey is well and truly over.

"The politics of the gutter, the politics of smears, have no place in Haringey.

“The people of Wood Green have firmly put Lynne Featherstone on notice. The public has lost trust in her party and it is time for Catherine West (Labour candidate for Hornsey and Wood Green) to step in and offer an alternative to this cruel, nasty government.”
