A new advice centre for fledgling businesses in Tottenham celebrated its first anniversary today.

The 639 Centre, which aims to provide help and low-cost office space for people with business ideas in Tottenham, celebrated its birthday with a visit from Haringey Mayor Sheila Peacock.

Centre manager Nicolette Nichols said the day had gone extremely well.

She added: “We want to make people more aware of who we are and what we’re doing here. People can just walk in and we can help them, or we can make an appointment with a partner business organisation.

“Some of our partners will help with CV writing, or business plans. Others help build basic business skills. “We’ve helped so many businesses, run by people of all ages, over the course of the year. My favourite part of the job has been working closely with those businesses to help them grow.”

The centre is one of several similar hubs in the capital run by the London Youth Support Trust, which was founded 14 years ago. It is funded by the Greater London Authority as part of the Tottenham regeneration drive following the 2011 riots.
