Tottenham’s jobseekers spent today at the Spurs stadium for a job fair.

The event, organised by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, Haringey Council and the Department for Work and Pensions, saw employers set up stalls in a bid to attract local talent.

Jobseeker Elijah Mochia, 20, was impressed with the range of employers present. He said: “It’s good to meet all these different people, there’s a variety of things here and you can go round and try them.

“This fair is like an Easter egg hunt, and you have to find the right egg.”

Spurs ambassador Ledley King put in an appearance, saying that it was crucial for young people to “recognise the talent they have”.

He added: “People think the area that they live in means they can’t achieve anything. It’s not true. It’s about determination and willingness to work hard. It’s about setting goals and aiming high.”

Ezinne Joan Ememke, 26, is studying for a post-graduate degree in business and information systems management at Middlesex University said she found the CV clinic helpful.

She said: “It would be nice to see a few more corporate people here, but it’s always great to meet employers.”

Ms Ememke, who would like to be a business analyst, was looking around the fair with Natalie Woodbine-Johnson, 20, who is currently employed on a zero hours contract and would like more stable employment.

Ms Woodbine-Johnson said: “I’m going to university after the summer to study for a sports and exercise extended degree. I do the foundation course and it leads into a degree.

“I’ve found a thing here called the Wembley Scholarship, which might really help me. I’m definitely going to apply. In the meantime, I’ll be applying for jobs at Argos and Sainsbury’s.”
