A group campaigning against betting shops opening in Haringey hopes to strike a blow against a bookmaker trying to set up shop in a disused pub.

Betting firm Paddy Power wants to open a branch in former pub The Lordship, at 606 Lordship Lane, and is appealing against the council’s recent decision to refuse it a licence.

However, the Lordship N22 Campaign Group has now written to Haringey Council to ask if the pub can be granted asset of community value status.

The group has said that this will delay any planning applications made by the Paddy Power and give the council grounds to refuse planning applications on the pub in future.
