Free and quick diabetes tests will be offered to shoppers along a busy high street as part of a charity’s drive to raise awareness of the condition.

Diabetes UK, in partnership with Bupa, is sending volunteers out to Tottenham High Road on Tuesday and Wednesday to give out the tests and information on how diet and physical activity can help keep diabetes at bay.

Those taking part will be able to find out if they have, or are at risk of getting, type 2 diabetes, which can lead to devastating health complications.

Diabetes UK’s regional London manager Roz Rosenblatt said: “We will have staff and volunteers in Tottenham to have a look at how likely you are to develop Type 2 diabetes now and in the next ten years, through a series of questions and measurements – but there’s nothing scary about our roadshow and no blood tests.

“It won’t take long, but could be an important way of finding the right path to a healthier life. There will be lots of information, encouragement and advice about Type 2 diabetes and reducing your own risk of getting the condition.”
