Arsenal fans with their hands on the levers of power could be holding up progress on Spurs' new stadium, it has been suggested.

Tottenham MP David Lammy asked whether Eric Pickles, the minister in charge of the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) was an Arsenal supporter.

Spurs cannot begin work on the planned stadium until a decision is made by DCLG on whether to grant the council a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for the remaining land.

Mr Lammy has argued that the decision is long overdue.

Planning Minister Nick Boles replied to Mr Lammy’s question by repeating that the decision on whether to grant the CPO must be “robust” and that the case was “complex”.

He said: “I would never dare tread into the question of people's football loyalties, particularly not at this time.”

Commons speaker John Bercow, however, interrupted the debate to announce that he “most certainly” was an Arsenal fan, adding that he was “very proud of it”.

Planning Minister Nick Boles doesn't actually deny Eric Pickles is an Arsenal fan though does he? Also, isn't Nick Boles a fan of them too? A quote from Pickles from his old Twitter page. "At the Arsenal. My spiritual home. Big up the gooners." https://twitter.com/

Surprise surprise, Arsenal linked to dodgy MP's and corruption to try and get ahead of the mighty Spurs! So glad I don't support that SCUM! Everything they have achieved since migrating North of the river has been built on corruption, so they love to tout how much better they supposedly are but really they lack & INTEGRITY! Forever working in the shadows!

It's disgusting and shows the Government's complete disregard for the area.

Thousands of jobs and homes hang in the balance; but forget that, it's only Tottenham.

Look at the contrast:
December 2001 - Arsenal refer plans to Secretary of State
February 2002 - Approved.

Shame on them.

Tottenham Business Group says...

Lammy shows such bias towards THFC one is forced to ask if this is acceptable in a public servant when it has provoked the neglect of the legitimate concerns of his constituents over the amount of local businesses to be sacrificed for Spurs profits.
