A primary school has opened an innovative new ‘sensory garden’.
St Paul’s Primary School, in Wood Green, opened the garden in its grounds last Friday, with Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone visiting to cut the ribbon.
Headteacher Richard Curry said the garden, which contains a sand pit, a ‘mud-pie kitchen’, a forest area and a reading lawn, will help children learn in new ways.
He said: “It’s about giving the pupils different learning experiences, and getting them outside, learning things in different ways.
“The mud-pie kitchen was particularly popular with our reception classes.
“We’re really happy with how the garden has turned out and we’ll be looking forward to cementing it into our curriculum.”
Mr Curry said that the idea came about as staff wanted to replace a small area of concrete in the playground.
He added: “The children love it and a lot of them came to the opening, which was well attended by the parents as well.
“It’s a really beautiful place, and I’m hoping we’ll have the weather to use it lots.”
