A man who glassed another drinker in the face has been jailed for three years.

Rupert Brown, 45, of Priory Road, Hornsey, was handed the sentence for malicious wounding by Judge James Patrick at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday.

Brown, who initially did not turn up for his sentencing, was found guilty of throwing a glass at Carl Maude in a two-day trial last week.

The men were both drinking at the Woodberry Tavern, in Seven Sisters Road, last June, when an argument broke out between Mr Maude and Brown’s girlfriend, who was trying to sell hanging basket flowers.

Mr Maude accused Brown’s girlfriend of having stolen some hanging baskets that she was offering to sell him.

Witnesses described how Brown became “agitated” before throwing the glass in Mr Maude’s face, causing cuts to his head.
