Chef for celebs opens cafe at rail station
A railway station has been given the celebrity treatment with the arrival of a new cafe.
Adele Young, who usually only cooks for the stars, opened The Yard at Alexandra Palace Station yesterday.
She said: “I cook for quite a few celebs, but I can’t say their names because I’m under contract.
“I’ll still be doing that sort of thing, but the idea of a cafe appealed to me because I want to be more in the community. Central London freaks me out.”
Ms Young, of Palmers Green, said she had first spotted a notice at Palmers Green Station asking people to apply to run the station cafe.
After talking to train company First Capital Connect, she secured a tenancy for Alexandra Palace, and set to work with decorating the place.
Ms Young’s daughter and her boyfriend, Bonnie and Craig, will be running the new cafe day-to-day, while Ms Young will do a lot of the cooking.
Bonnie, also a professional chef, has moved from award-winning restaurant Honey & Co.
She said The Yard offered a unique chance to start running a place from scratch.
Keith Jipps, customer services director for First Capital Connect, helped cut the ribbon for the new venture.
He said that the station had been done up generally, with new paint, a new counter that was designed to make it easier for people in wheelchairs, and new bike racks.
He added: “Alexandra Palace is a really important station for us, and the place really deserves a good food outlet.”
If all goes to plan, the group will open a similar cafe at Palmers Green Station.
