A teaching union is warring with the council over the terms of a union representative’s suspension.

Haringey NUT secretary Julie Davies has been suspended by Haringey Council in what the NUT says is an “unlawful” disciplinary action.

Ms Davies has been ordered by the human resources department of Haringey Council not to speak to teachers, journalists and school governors, or to enter buildings owned by either schools or the council.

But NUT London Regional Officer Darren O’Grady has told Ms Davies that she should continue to represent members, who are mostly teachers.

The union added: “There is to be an investigation into allegations of misconduct, which we are confident are trivial, baseless and politically motivated.”

Haringey Council has said it is unable to comment on individual cases.
