The council home was owned by an elderly lady and her son, according to Maya Arshad who lives above the fire gutted home.

She said: “My home started to smell really badly and you could feel the heat coming from below. We were told to get out by the fire crew and I was worried about the lady in the flat.

“I could see her son was outside the building but I could not see her anywhere. The home is really badly damaged and I saw it being gutted by the council today. It looks like everything has been destroyed.”
