Police are today searching for an elderly “hero” who helped officers arrest a man who was attacking passers-by with a metal pole.
Officers were called to Wood Green on Friday evening following reports that a man was hitting members of the public with a piece of scaffolding.
The man managed to escape police and was still attacking pedestrians when an elderly man in a red car picked up the officers and chased the suspect through the back streets.
The man was then caught and Tasered by police in Woodside Road following a “violent struggle”.
But the elderly man drove away before police found out his name.
A police spokesman: “All we know is that he was an elderly white man with grey hair and driving a small red car."
He added that some “battered and bruised officers” were “desperate to thank him personally”.
