People fearing late-night noise from a new pub's beer garden raised their concerns at a meeting.

Pub chain JD Wetherspoon hopes to open a new branch in Muswell Hill Broadway – but neighbours fear the noise this would create would ruin their quality of life.

The pub will replace the derelict Village Bar, and JD Wetherspoon has proposed opening until 11pm.

During last night’s meeting at the Raglan Hotel, more than 60 also voiced worries over the fact that the London Centre for Cerebral Palsy is due to open a school opposite the site.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Martin Newton, who represents Fortis Green, said: “It was a mix of people who support it and people worried about noise and disturbance, especially issues about the beer garden.

“We would encourage people to have their voices heard.”

The company says it will employ more than 100 people living within 20 minutes of the pub.

The licensing consultation ends on August 26. Cllr Newton added: “We would encourage people to have their voices heard.”

JD Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We are aware of the concern of residents over the beer garden.

“We held a very positive public meeting which attracted 60 people and stressed to them that our aim is to work with the local community.

“Some of the residents at the meeting raised concerns over the hours of operation for the rear terrace.

“We will now consider the points raised by residents.”
