A new councillor will be elected in an October by-election to fill the seat left by the late Pat Egan.

Cllr Egan, who had been a Labour councillor in the Woodside ward for eight years, died earlier this summer, aged 66.

The ward is traditionally a safe Labour seat, with the top-ranking Liberal Democrat candidate winning only 418 votes to third-ranking councillor Ann Waters’ 1,865 last May.

The by-election process is now underway, with potential candidates invited to put their names forward by September 5, and voting scheduled to take place on October 2.

Voters in the ward have until September 16 to register to vote if not already on the electoral register.
