Inspirational people took to the stage to tell their success stories at City Hall.

Positive Youth News, run by young people in Haringey, recently won a nation vInspired award for its work changing the negative perceptions of young people in the borough.

Joanne McCartney, London assembly member for Haringey and Enfield, welcomed the audience to City Hall.

She said: “This is the home of London government and its only right we celebrate the achievements of Haringey’s young people here.”

Lorna Forbes presented the team with their vInspired certificates, while Tottenham MP David Lammy presented a donation from the proceeds of his book on the 2011 riots.

Borough police commander Dr Victor Olisa commended the work of the group in building the relationship between young people and police officers.

Patrick Crozier, headteacher of Highgate Wood School, spoke of struggling with the belief that university was not for him, adding that inspiration for young people was key to self-confidence.

As well as speeches, the evening featured music from rapper Nico Claiver and singers Kayley O’Niell and Kacey Chambers.
