Concerns were raised over council spending on both Adult and Children’s Services in a Haringey Council meeting this evening.

Budget papers show that Children’s Services within the borough are predicted to overspend by £2 million while Adult Care will overspend by £3.5 million.

Councillor Jason Arthur, cabinet member for resources and culture, said he had met with council staff in the department to discuss the figure.

The council will now carry out monthly reviews on Children’s Services spending while reviewing the costs of care for older people in the Adult Care service.

Councillor Sarah Elliot, leader of the Liberal Democrats, asked if the cabinet member for children believed the service could be run within the budget given.

Lisa Redfern, Director of Children’s Services in the council, replied it would be possible to cut costs while ensuring that important decisions were taken by qualified people.
