Three men were fined for trading laughing gas without a licence at a music festival.

Jason Palmer, 27, of South London, Ricky McCarthy, 21, of East London and Mitchell Dufeal, 23, of Hackney, were caught trying to sell the gas at the Wireless Festival in July.

Laughing gas, used as a recreational drug, is not illegal, but Haringey Borough Council says it is not happy with it being sold in the borough.

All three traders were fined £700 at Tottenham Magistrates Court after the council prosecuted them for trading without a licence.

Councillor Stuart McNamara, cabinet member for the environment, said: “It may appear a cheap, legal and harmless high but laughing gas can have potentially serious consequences.

“We are not prepared to stand back and let people get away with selling it at events in our borough and we will take all the action we can to make sure these people realise they are not welcome here.”
