Both the Conservatives and Greens have named their parliamentary candidates for the Hornsey and Wood Green constituency.

Suhail Rahuja, a serving councillor for Westminster Council, will challenge Lynne Featherstone for her seat on behalf of the Conservatives, while Gordon Peters will stand for the Green Party.

Mr Rahuja, who grew up in Manchester, has lived in London for more than 20 years and has been a serving councillor for six.

He said: “I want to spend my campaign listening to all residents from all communities across this constituency about their concerns, their hopes and their aspirations.

“It is immediately clear the Lib Dems have not stood up to Labour and their support has collapsed. Only the Conservative Party can effectively challenge Labour’s Mansion Tax in Hornsey and Wood Green as the Lib Dems are hopelessly divided on the issue.”

Mr Peters, who first came to Hornsey and Wood Green in the late 1960s, has worked as an international health and social development consultant working in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.

He was director of social services in Hackney in the 1980s, and is now particularly interested in raising the visibility and respect for older people, bridging the generation gap, and for doing something about the deteriorating state of health and social care.

Former Islington Council leader Catherine West will stand for Labour.
