Men over 40 in Haringey are being encouraged to take advantage of free, on the spot health check-ups being offered in The Mall in Wood Green next week.

The healthy ‘pit-stops’ have been organised by charity the Men’s Health Forum and supported by Haringey Council and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

Man MOT is an online health advice service delivered by the national charity the Men's Health Forum which allows men to chat directly and confidentially with a GP by text about any health problem via a computer, tablet or smart phone.

Statistics show that men in the east of Haringey live up to 8 years less than men in the west of the borough.

These deaths are largely caused by diseases including heart disease, stroke and cancer. It is hoped that the Man MOT scheme will enable men across Haringey to seek medical advice earlier and more easily, helping to reduce the number of preventable deaths in Haringey.

Jim Pollard, who manages Man MOT for the Men's Health Forum charity said: “Man MOT does what men in Haringey told us they want - it's a free, confidential online health advice service.

"We hope that once men in other areas see what's available in Haringey they will want Man MOT too but for now Haringey is the only place in the country to have a service like this.”
