Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey will switch on the Christmas lights in Bowes Park.

Mr Morrissey, best known for playing Tony in the hit television series, will be guest of honour in the Myddleton Road festival, which will feature a lantern parade and carol singing.

He said: “I am delighted to turn on the Myddleton Road Christmas lights. Having never switched Christmas lights on anywhere else, this is a huge honour for me and another to cross off the ‘bucket list’.

“This is a really lively multi-cultural place with a dedicated group of neighbours, working hard to improve our community. Celebrating the holiday season together is a great example of the friendliness of the Bowes Park area.”

As well as appearing on television, the actor has taken stage roles in the musical Oliver!, Guys and Dolls and the Rain Man.

The Myddleton Road Festival, set to take place on Sunday, November 30, has been organised by the We Love Myddleton Road community campaign.

Campaign chairman Toby Nation said: “Myddleton Road is the best-kept secret in the area. The community of Bowes Park loves its shops and restaurants, which have a great festival feel at this time of year.

“We wanted to celebrate all that’s good about the road and the area, and what better way than to mark the switching on of the Christmas lights with a lantern-light parade and carols?”

On the day there will be a children’s lantern-making workshop at The Hub, 128 Myddleton Road, from 3pm, with the parade starting at Bowes Park station at 4pm.

Neil Morrissey will switch on the Christmas lights at 4.30pm, followed by mulled wine, mince pies and carols.
