Sports legends joined budding Haringey stars for a Celebrating Sports awards ceremony on Monday night.

Tottenham Hotspur ambassador and former England international Ledley King presented awards and paralympian Liz Johnson was guest speaker at the gala event, held at Alexandra Palace.

Twelve winners collected awards which recognised their leadership, team building and commitment to sport, and accolades also went to five young volunteers who have promoted sports in schools and the community.

They were all greeted and congratulated by the Mayor Cllr Kaushika Amin and cabinet member for environment Cllr Stuart McNamara.

Haringey School Games Organisers Dave Thomas and Pete Bennett, along with young people from St Thomas More School were presented with the London School Games Shield after scooping top place in the contest.

The School Games involves 16 different London-wide competitions and Haringey beat their nearest competitor by more than 100 points.
