Haringey Council announced a temporary project for Hornsey Town Hall after plans to lease the building to a theatre school hit a funding gap.

In July, a report to the council’s cabinet revealed Mountview Academy was not immediately in a position to take over the town hall.

But now the building is set to host a year-long programme of arts events, offering studio space, public galleries, and rehearsal space.

The project, to run until January 2016, will be led by ANA Arts Project, the creative producers behind events at venues including the South Bank Centre, the Science Museum and the View from the Shard.

Haringey Council cabinet member for regeneration, Cllr Alan Strickland, said the council was still working towards a secure future for the town hall.

He added: "We’re delighted to have this creative team on board at Hornsey Town Hall; their commitment to developing diverse events, activities and opportunities will really make the most of the building and the spaces it has to offer.

“We were very impressed with the Hornsey Town Hall Arts Centre proposals, which showed a strong sense of creativity and will open up the hall to the local community.”

Nick Saich of ANA Arts Project said: “We are incredibly excited to be given the opportunity to help to put the energy, the vibrancy and the life back into what was, and will be, a wonderful addition to the community of Crouch End and beyond.”

Liz Sich, chairman of Hornsey Town Hall Creative Trust, said: "We are delighted to see that this wonderful building will be opened up for a host of arts and community projects over the coming year.  It is a perfect way to make best use of the town hall ahead of its major redevelopment."
