A mechanic who failed to hand in paperwork about business waste has been forced to pay out £3,000.

Ronald Walcott, who runs K&R Motors in King Street, Tottenham, has been convicted for a third time of failing to provide waste transfer notes to the council.

The council’s enforcement officers visited the garage in October and asked Mr Walcott to produce his waste transfer notes.

The notes are official documents that every business must possess in order to prove they use an authorised company to clear away their rubbish.

Walcott was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £2,000 costs after a jury at Wood Green Crown Court on November 10 found him guilty of failing to produce the documents.

The court heard that he had two previous convictions for the same offence.

Haringey Council cabinet member for environment Cllr Stuart McNamara said: “Without these official documents, there is nothing to prove that a business didn’t intend to just dump their rubbish on the street.

“As part of Operation Clean Streets, we expect everyone to dispose of their waste properly and responsibly and we are getting tough on those that don’t.

“Hardworking council taxpayers cannot be expected to subsidise traders who haven’t got proper waste arrangements in place."
