A controversial caution given to a teenager with Down’s Syndrome by police has been withdrawn.

An investigation was launched into the police treatment of 19-year-old Abdulkarriem Al-Faisal, who was given a caution for burglary earlier this year.

Mr Al-Faisal was found inside Haringey Sixth Form Centre in White Hart Lane on May bank holiday Monday.

His mother, Roshina Al-Faisal, described the treatment of her son by the police as “outrageous”, alleging that he had been kicked and forced to the floor by police officers, despite having a heart condition and learning difficulties.

She has called for Haringey police to withdraw his caution.

The Directorate of Professional Standards investigated Mrs Al-Faisal's claims and found that no officers should face misconduct proceedings.

But a review by the Met’s Early Deletion Unit decided to withdraw the caution due to procedural flaws.

It was found Mr Al-Faisal’s admissions were not fully qualified and the significance of the caution was not fully explained to him at the time of it being issued.

The teenager’s fingerprint and DNA samples will now be destroyed and his custody image will also be deleted.

Roshina Al-Faisal said the family were “unreservedly happy” with the outcome of the investigations.
