Detailed plans to repair and refurbish the eastern side of Alexandra Palace have been submitted to Haringey Council.

The plans include proposed upgrades to the former BBC studios that broadcast the first television pictures.

A new “grand staircase” is proposed for the studios, which would serve as an “informal auditorium” and BBC museum.

Access to the eastern wing will be via a new entrance court.

The application is made up of 194 separate documents and was officially accepted by Haringey Council’s planning department last week.

Consultation letters have been sent to some homes in Dukes Avenue, The Avenue and Vallance Road, and a variety of interest groups from the Garden History Society to The Theatres Trust.

The scheme will be considered by Haringey Borough Council’s planning committee next year.
