Four students from Tottenham UTC (TUTC) showed skills in science and technology at a careers fair in NEC Birmingham last week.

Female TUTC students attended the Skills Show as part of a drive to get more women to consider a career in engineering.

Professor Mehmet Karamanoglu, head of design engineering and mathematics at Middlesex University, said:  “It is fantastic to see our Tottenham UTC ambassadors exhibit their work at a national event such as The Skills Show, having only been at the TUTC for just over two months.

“Developing such high levels of confidence and the ability to demonstrate their newly found science and engineering skills in such a short period of time is great to see and we are all proud of them.”

One of the TUTC representatives at The Skills Show was 17-year-old Daniela Charles, who has recently been named a Student Leader at the college.

Ms Charles, who found out about the opportunities available at TUTC through her role as U18 goalkeeper for Spurs Ladies football team, said: “TUTC is a different learning environment to a mainstream school, and a great one to be around.

“There are so many opportunities for the students that study here, so matter what your history, so it has been a new start for everyone involved.”
