Council tax in Haringey will be frozen for the sixth year running in from April 2015.

The freeze is outlined in the council’s draft corporate plan and medium-term financial strategy, which sets out the council’s key priorities and spending plans for the next three years.

The corporate plan outlines how the council intends to change to meet the challenge of having to save £70 million over the next three years because of the reduction in Government grants. The savings come on top of £117milion it has had to save since 2010.

The funding gap created by freezing the council tax is plugged with a grant from the Government, which the council has used every year since 2010.

Haringey Council leader Councillor Claire Kober said: “While local people have seen other households bills soar above inflation levels, we’re determined to do what we can to avoid adding to the burden by continuing our council tax freeze.”

The proposals will be considered by Cabinet next Tuesday and, if approved, a public consultation on the three-year plan will launch the day after and run for a month. A finalised plan will go before full council in February.
