Heavy rain will set in this evening before high winds hit north London overnight.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for between 1am and 9am tomorrow, with possible gusts of up to 50mph to 60mph.

The storm is the result of an area of low pressure crossing the Atlantic deepening further as it crosses southern England early tomorrow.

The worst of the weather is expected overnight, with clouds and rain expected to set in at around 5pm and become heavier through the night.

Temperatures will be between 5C and 7C, but will feel colder due to south-westerly winds of 13mph, rising to more than 20mph by 3am or 4am.

The wind will drop during the day on Friday, but skies will clear and the temperature will drop to just above freezing.

The ‘weatherbomb’ – arising from low pressure caused by storms in the north Atlantic – has caused gales and snow in Scotland and northern England, with possible snow predicted as far south as the Midlands tonight.

The Met Office says the weather is complex at the moment, and is advising people to check up to date forecasts. See the Times and Independent weather page.
