There are eight million more passengers now using the tube than this time last year, new figures reveal.
Performance data from London Underground shows a record-breaking rise in passenger numbers from 2013/2014, when the network carried 1.265 billion people.
The Victoria line, serving Seven Sisters and Tottenham Hale, saw its “lost customer hours” fall, and also beat its targets for trains running on time.
London Underground says the line is now operating one of the highest frequency train services in Europe.
Its chief operating officer Phil Hufton said: “We’re carrying record numbers of people on our network and, as these figures demonstrate, the number of customers is set to rise further.”
He added: “Customers have already benefited from the upgrades of Jubilee and Victoria lines and work is well underway to modernise the Northern, Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines.”
London's population is set to grow from 8.4m today to around 10m by 2030, which LU says equates to an extra train full of people every three days.
