A headteacher paid tribute to “cheerful” teenager David Barcelos, who died after he was hit by a bus.

The 13-year-old was knocked down in Fore Street, Edmonton yesterday at just after 8am as he ran for a bus on his way to Gladesmore School in Tottenham.

Headteacher Tony Hartney paid homage to the schoolboy, saying he will be “fondly remembered" at the Crowland Road school.

He said: “The news of David’s tragic death is deeply upsetting for the whole of the Gladesmore community. Sadness is felt by all who knew and cared for him, fellow pupils and staff.

“Our hearts go out to his lovely family, including his older sister, a former pupil of the school.

“David was a cheerful boy who loved school and he was making giant leaps forward in his learning.

“His friendly manner meant that all who he encountered enjoyed his company and were warmed by the kindness he showed to others, his smile and the happiness he exuded.

“David will be fondly remembered by our Gladesmore family. We will be holding special memorial events for children and staff to be able to pay their respects and to commemorate David’s life.”

A special assembly will take place to commemorate David’s life at the school.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident and have so far made no arrests.
