The number of people claiming out of work benefits in one Haringey constituency has halved in the past four years.

In 2010 the unemployment rate among those eligible to work in Hornsey and Wood Green was 5.2 per cent, some 3,755 individuals.

That figure has fallen to 2.6 per cent over the past four and a half years, around 1,930 people.

The number of people between the ages of 18 and 24 who are out of work has also dropped over the same period from 7.1 per cent to 2.5 per cent.

The figures have been welcomed by MP for Hornsey & Wood Green Lynne Featherstone. She said: “It’s the job of MPs to work with businesses and JobCentres, and help get people into work.

“Now employment is at a record high it means there are so many more jobs and apprenticeships available, giving everyone the opportunity to find work and get on in life.

“I’m so pleased that unemployment in my constituency has halved.”
