A school in Northumberland Park has been named best in the country for older pupils' progress.

The Department for Education rated Harris Primary Academy Coleraine Park as the top sponsored primary academy in the country for the academic progress made by pupils between the ages of seven and 11.

The academy was given an ‘outstanding’ rating by Ofsted last year and despite a large number of pupils having English as a second language has outperformed other academies.

The school, which opened in 2012 alongside Primary Academy Philip Lane, also ranked highest in Haringey for the overall progress of pupils.

Joanne Taylor, executive principal of Harris Academy Coleraine Park, said: “We are delighted to be recognised as the top sponsored primary Academy in the country for the progress made by our pupils.

"Many of our children start the academy speaking very little English. However, our unrelenting focus on high expectations, confidence building, creative learning and an extended curriculum have ensured these results.

“This was a school with a history of underachievement but every member of staff here now works tirelessly to realise our motto of achieving exceedingly, abundantly, above all we can think or imagine.”
