Two men who killed their friend and stole his credit card have been jailed for life.

Luckasz Siek, 33, and Piotr Jarota, 34, of no fixed abode, beat Franciszek Karol Malinkowski, 51, to death in Ermine Road, South Tottenham, last April.

Mr Malinkowski, originally of Poland, suffered a broken jaw, multiple rib fractures and blunt force injuries to his lower limbs.

Officers also fear he may have been tortured before his death as there were small cuts across his body.

CCTV footage from various banks showed the men using Mr Malinkowski's bank cards in the days before and after he was found dead.

Transactions continued over the next 25 days and they were traced by officers across southern Europe.

The pair were arrested in Vibo Valentia, Italy, and extradited to the UK in July 2014.

Siek will serve a minimum of 28 years abd Jarota, also jailed for life, will serve a minimum of 26 years.

Detective Sergeant Mark Richards said: "This was brutal murder of an innocent victim by two men motivated by money and greed.

"Despite being constantly on the move through France and Italy, close liaison with European law enforcement allowed us to arrest these men.

"They believed they could freely spend using Mr Malinkowski's bank card across Europe but it was that spending that ultimately led to their undoing.

"They have shown no remorse for what they have done and hopefully Mr Malinkowski's family have found some closure in this conviction."
