Disabled people are being urged to make sure they register to vote.

Operation Disabled Vote is holding a series of events in Tottenham on Thursday ahead of the May 7 elections.

Haringey Borough Council’s disabled people’s organisation (DPO), Haringey Disability First Consortium and the pan-London DPO, Inclusion London, are working together to ensure disabled people understand their choices.

The day will kick off with a meeting of Haringey Women’s Forum, in Edison Road, Crouch End.

The Inclusion London Election Bus will visit Hornsey Town Hall, in Crouch End, from 2pm to 4pm and Tottenham Green Leisure Centre from 5pm to 7pm.

Mhairi McGhee of Haringey Disability First Consortium said: “Some 15 per cent of Haringey residents are disabled. Older and disabled people - our families and friends - could, therefore, have a huge impact on who become our MPs.

“There are lots of ways to vote that reduce barriers; proxy voting, postal voting, braille ballot papers, and accessible polling stations; but you have to be registered to vote.”
