Concerns have been raised about road safety after a woman and two girls were injured in a crash.

Police were called to High Road, Wood Green, shortly after 8.30am on Monday, April 13 after reports that three women had been in a collision with a car during the rush hour traffic.

A silver Volkswagen Polo was spun around during the collision, ripping off the front bumper, while a second vehicle was also badly damaged.

Two ambulance crews and a paramedic treated the two girls and a woman at the scene. A teenager received serious leg injuries and was rushed to the Royal London hospital in a stable conditition.

After the crash, shoppers and commuters raised concerns over safety along the main road.

Twitter user Frances Braxton said: “People will cross the road where they want regardless but there used to be traffic lights at the section of the road where the accident was and it is a busy corner.

“I'm a driver and don't think the lights should have gone. Because of the work along the High Road, the other pedestrian lights are out and there isn't really a safe option for people to cross.”

Kieran Howell, twitter user @kierandean, added: “The car was in the middle of two crossings, but because of all the road and paving works it's all a tad confusing lately.

“However it’s a bit hard to say if this could have been avoided without witnessing the crash, and traffic has been moving way too slow in general.”

It is unknown how the crash happened. The driver stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made.

Haringey Borough Council has invested £4.2 million to clear pavements and open spaces from Wood Green to Turnpike Lane Tube Stations, including making pavements wider and planned raised crossings.

Construction along High Road started on April 22 last year and is due to continue until August this year.

A Haringey Council spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with those injured in this incident, and we wish them a speedy recovery.

“It would be inappropriate to speculate on the causes of this crash while a police investigation is ongoing.”
