A comedian joined a parliamentary candidate in Wood Green to help her rally supporters ahead of Thursday’s General Election.

Crowds of more than 200 welcomed Steve Coogan, who plays spoof television presenter Alan Partridge, and Labour’s Catherine West, who is standing in Wood Green.

The duo were joined by Tom Watson, parliamentary candidate for West Bromwich East, at Spouters Corner, in Wood Green.

Mr Coogan was introduced by Catherine West and spoke about the need to save the NHS from cuts.

He said: “I am supporting Catherine West and the Labour Party because this will be a close election, and it should be 'all hands on deck'.”

"We have a few days left to save the NHS from another five years of a Conservative-led government.”

"This election is a battle between cynical Tories who prey on vulnerable people's worst fears and Labour who believe in kindness and a generosity of spirit. I know which side I am on."

Ms West said: “It’s been fantastic to have Steve and Tom with us today to talk to so many people about the issues that really matter to people in Wood Green.”

“People here are worried about how another five years of a Conservative-led Government will affect the services and support that matter most to them.”

“I want to make sure that our NHS is once again run as a public service and that the elderly and disabled are given the support they need.”

“That’s why, as MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, I will vote to repeal the damaging Health and Social Care Act, and scrap the bedroom tax.”
