Haringey has some of the highest unemployment figures in London.
According to figures from the Office for National Statistics, Tottenham has more people claiming job seekers allowance than any other part of London.
For April of this year there were 3,492 registered claimants in Tottenham, 3.7 per cent of the population.
The number was lower for Hornsey & Wood Green with 1,946, or 2.1 per cent of the population, claiming the allowance.
According to the Haringey Trades Union Council, the figures show a failure of Conservative national policy in Government
Haringey TUC chairman Keith Flett said: “David Cameron preached the rhetoric of ‘one nation’ as he took office.
“If he is serious he needs to address issues like unemployment in Tottenham.”
Figures from the Department of Work and Pensions show that JSA claimant count rate has fallen from 5.2% to 3.7% in the last year.
A DWP spokesman said: “Every day frontline staff in in the Tottenham Jobcentre support benefit claimants build the skills and get the opportunities they need to move into work and have the security of a regular wage.
“In Tottenham there are 1,445 fewer people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance than there were last year.”
