Young people can find out about work and apprenticeships with more than 60 employers at a jobs fair.

The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London is holding an apprenticeships job fair with a range of employers including Haringey Borough Council and North Middlesex Hospital.

People will get the opportunity to meet the employers and be interviewed for the positions on the same day.

The college’s apprenticeships team, which works with businesses to provide opportunities to step straight into work and ‘earn while you learn’, is holding the fair so local employers can fill their vacancies as quickly as possible.

Head of apprenticeships Sambit Sen said: “I urge visitors to bring your CV on the day and my team will be able to give you one-to-one guidance on how to improve it to land the job of your dreams.”

Apprentices are required to work thirty hours a week including one day of attendance at the college to study for their qualifications. From October 1, the minimum rate of pay will be £3.30 per hour.

Councillor Joe Goldberg, cabinet member for economic development, social inclusion and sustainability, said: “Taking on an apprentice can help someone to gain the hands-on experience and skills they need to build a long-term career.

“It’s also good for the borough’s small businesses, with nearly three quarters of apprentices successfully starting work at the same employer after their placement ends.

“London is the world’s greatest city, and it’s vital that together we do more to bring more jobs, training and work experience opportunities that support our residents in getting a foot on the jobs ladder.”

The fair will take place at the college's Tottenham Centre in High Road, Tottenham, on Thursday May 28 between 3.30pm and 6.30pm.
