Tottenham Hotspur legend Ledley King said he was “very impressed” as he re-opened a renovated community centre.

Formerly known as White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre, the new facilities include a new gym, refurbished 400m athletics track, indoor ‘air dome’ with four tennis courts, ten new astroturf pitches and a mobile gym for outdoor training session.

Now known as New River centre, King cut the ribbon for the new football pitches before refereeing a five-a-side match between two local teams.

The Spurs legend said: “I’m very impressed with these new facilities – I would have liked to have had access to pitches like this when I was growing up.

“It’s important to give young people access to a variety of sports where they can play against their peers in a fun, safe environment and that’s exactly what they can do here at New River.”
