A human-rights lawyer in a Tottenham firm has been recognised as a rising star of the profession, for her policy-changing work on human trafficking.

Nina Rathbone Pullen, of Tottenham-based Wilson Solicitors LLP, has been shortlisted for Junior Lawyer of The Year in the Law Society Excellence Awards 2015.

The thirty-year-old is only three years qualified, but has already made an outstanding contribution to the rights of trafficking victims and has changed government policy on the issue.

She said: “I am over the moon to have been shortlisted for the award for Junior Lawyer of the year.

“I draw a great deal of strength and inspiration from my clients, the majority of whom are from outside the UK (though many reside in Haringey), and who have experienced ill-treatment beyond imagination either in their country of origin or in the UK.

“Sadly, their situation is only compounded by unlawful decision-making by the UK government which is why legal representation remains absolutely vital to securing justice.”

The shortlist was selected by experts in the legal industry, and features outstanding individuals from small local practices, in-house teams and large City firms.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony hosted by BBC News presenter Mishal Husain on 22 October 2015 at the Hilton Park Lane Hotel, London.

Law Society president Jonathan Smithers said: “I am proud that my profession has so many impressive individuals who continue to innovate and thrive even in challenging economic and legislative environments, seeking to serve their clients and communities in the best way that they possibly can.”

Ms Rathbone Pullen added: “I am fortunate to work at Wilson Solicitors LLP in Haringey which has an unwavering commitment to providing legal representation to some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our community.”
