Haringey Liberal Democrats have announced their candidates for the two council by-elections next month.

Jenni Hollis will contest the Woodside seat for the party on September 17, and Derin Adebiyi will stand in Noel Park on the same date.

Both candidates have said they will campaign on issues such as housing, fly-tipping, crime and improvements for parks and open spaces.

Ms Hollis, 27, who lives in Wood Green and previously worked as chief of staff for former Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone, said: “I’m an experienced campaigner – with social justice, the environment, and localism among my key priorities.

“And from pavement politics to raising national issues, I’d love to give this part of Haringey a fresh, independent, liberal voice. I’m delighted to be selected as the Lib Dem candidate for Woodside, and will give it my best shot.”

Mr Adebiyi, 30, who lives in Crouch End, said it was “important” to have a Liberal voice in Haringey arguing for a “better way”.

He added: “If elected I will work with the local Liberal Democrat councillors to help Noel Park residents with the issues that matter to them.”

The by-elections have been triggered by the death of Woodside councillor George Meehan and the resignation of Noel Park councillor Denise Marshall, who were both Labour members.
