A shop could be facing fines of up to £80,000 after immigration officers found four men were found to be working illegally.

The Home Office raided Home Office and Mobile Computer Exchange, in High Road, Wood Green, on Tuesday, September 1 at 2.10pm.

Two men were found to have overstayed their visas - a Pakistani national aged 29 and a 41-year-old man from India.

They also found a 28-year-old Indian national who was working in breach of his visa conditions while a 36-year-old man, also from India, had entered the country illegally.

The oldest and youngest Indian men have been transferred to n immigration detention centre and will be deported while the other two have been ordered to report to the Home Office regularly while their cases are processed.

They could now face fines of up to £20,000 per illegal working - unless they can demonstrate appropriate checks were carried out.

David Seymour-Smith, head of the North London Home Office Immigration Enforcement team, said: “These arrests should serve as a warning to businesses in north London considering employing illegal workers.

“Our specialist teams have the resources and expertise to find you and you will be penalised.

“Illegal working is exploitative, cheats the taxpayer and deprives legitimate job seekers of employment.

“We rely on information from the public and I would urge people to report suspected immigration abuse to us.”
