Festival fever is set to hit Haringey this weekend.

This Saturday Highgate Village will hold its traditional summer fete - while in the east of the borough the colourful Tottenham carnival will also get underway.

The Highgate Festival, which promises to be the biggest yet, will feature performances by groups as diverse as the Bolloywood dance troupe, a steel band, the Highgate poets and children from the Highgate ballet.

Food stalls serving treats such as baked buns, cupcakes and a tradional summer barbecue will also be on site.

Christina Nolan of the Highgate Society, one of the organises, said: "Highgate is a London village and this is our own village fete. It's a fantastic chance for the whole community to party together.

"This year is the best yet and the whole of Highgate is so excited. We'd be delighted to see you there."

The Highgate eco-shopping bag, featuring the logo "I'm a Highgate Shopper", will also be launched at the fair.

It is made from tough, durable cotton and comes packed full of great money-off tokens and exclusive offers from local Highgate businesses, in attempt to curb shoppers from using platic bags.

Tottenham carnival, celebrating its eleventh year, hopes to live up to its reputation of a huge street party, with a jam-packed programme of events to entertain the crowds including live music, dance performaces and fairground attractions.

The carnival, which celebrates Haringey's diverse culture, is expected to draw thousands of people from across London.

The Highgate festival will be held in Pond Square, Highgate, from 12.30 - 5.30 pm on June 21 2008. The Tottenham Carnival will be held from 1pm at Bruce Castle Park, Tottenham.
