Britney 'Spurs' has Tottenham roots

ARCHIVES proving pop star Britney Spears has Tottenham roots have been published online.

The multi-million dollar performer's great-grandfather George Anthony Portell married his wife Lillian Esther Lewis at St John's Church, in Tottenham, parish records show.

The couple had a daughter, Britney's grandmother, who married a US Naval officer during the Second World War.

The newly-weds later moved to a farm near New Orleans and had three children — including Miss Spears' mother Lynne.

The findings were revealed as part of a joint project between the London Historical Records and ancestry.co.uk.

Their research includes parish registers from more than 10,000 churches, containing records of baptisms, marriages and burials dating from the 1530s.

Currently 250,000 records are visible at ancestry.co.uk with the rest to be uploaded by the end of 2010.
